Labiaplasty Cleveland

What is a Labiaplasty Surgery?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess and/or uneven labial tissue from a woman’s labia minora (the inner vaginal lips) and/or the labia majora (the outer vaginal lips). Overtime, a woman’s labia minora may become enlarged or elongated, which is a condition known as labial hypertrophy. This may be caused from genetics, puberty or following childbirth. Similarly, a woman’s labia majora may also become enlarged, or appear saggy or uneven over time, which may be due to weight fluctuation, age, genetics or following childbirth.

Women may elect to have this procedure done to enhance their overall aesthetic and provide a more youthful look to their body. When women have an enlarged labia majora or minora, they may become uncomfortable due to the way this may cause them to look in tightly fitted clothing or bathing suits. Or, they may experience discomfort during exercise or intercourse. This procedure may also be performed for hygienic reasons including pinching or rubbing of underwear, or moisture collection in the genital area.

What is the Surgical Approach for a Labiaplasty?

After experimenting with many different styles of surgical techniques, Dr. Gitifooroz has concluded that the straight edge technique is the best approach for this surgery due to it’s precise precision with very few risks. The surgery may be performed using a CO2 laser or other modalities depending on the patient’s skin color and condition. Some modalities are minimally invasive and offers a more precise incision than the standard scalpel. The incision will run along the length of the labia, an accurately creates a new shape of the labia which is pre-determined by the physician and patient prior to surgery. At the end of surgery, the skin in sutured together to create the desired look, and the sutures used are self-dissolvable.

The CO2 laser provides superior precision and cutting while cauterizing the blood vessels as it cuts. This results in very minimal bleeding and scarring, and helps to decrease swelling, bruising, pain and post-operative recovery time. The surgery is performed in our ZEEBA outpatient surgery center in Beachwood, OH using the most modern and state of the art equipment.

Appearance of Labia Before Versus After Labiaplasty

Who Are the Candidates for a Labiaplasty?

Women who have experienced labial stretching and/or teaching during childbirth, or women who are suffering from an enlarged and/or uneven labia minor/labia majora can benefit from this procedure. Women who are also unhappy or self-conscious regarding the appearance or asymmetry of their labia may benefit from this procedure by achieving a more proportionate and well-balanced aesthetic.

Good Candidates include:

  • Enlarged labia (labia hypertrophy)
  • Asymmetrical inner lips
  • Women who wish to reduce the size of excess tissue
  • Women who experience pain or discomfort wearing certain clothing
  • Women who have torn their labia during childbirth
  • Women who experience hygiene issues
  • Women who are experiencing painful intercourse or decreased sexual pleasure

Can This be Performed with Other Cosmetic Procedures?

Labiaplasty is a simple procedure that can be easily combined with other gynecological or reconstructive surgeries. Some other surgeries that a labiaplasty may be combined with include vaginal rejuvenation, clitoral unhooding, and labial majora enhancement. This procedure may also be performed as part of a mommy makeover, or in combination with other plastic surgeries such as a breast augmentation or tummy tuck.

What is the Recovery Like?

This surgery is an outpatient procedure, and due to the straight edge surgical technique, recovery is typically quick with minimal discomfort and few risks. Women are advised to refrain from sexual intercourse and heavy lifting for a few weeks. Patients whose jobs are more physically demanding may require additional time off work.
